Alaska Coalition Releases Jobs Study

Study shows alternative energy and energy efficiency creates more jobs than drilling in Arctic Refuge.

On November 12, the Alaska Coalition released a report completed by ECONorthwest, an economics consulting firm based in Eugene, Oregon.  The study compared possible jobs production from oil drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge with jobs derived from alternative energy and energy efficiency.

Among other findings, the study found that developing the nation's wind potential and cost-effective energy efficiency measures could create as many as 1 million jobs and  500,000 jobs, respectively.  These figures compare to zero to 25,000 possible jobs produced from drilling in the Arctic Refuge.
