The Alaska Coalition is a powerful network of conservation, sporting, labor and religious groups that work to keep Alaska’s wild places protected for future generations. We strive
to safeguard Alaska’s wilderness from the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge, in the north, to the temperate rainforests along the Pacific coast of southeast Alaska. The Alaska Coalition was originally founded in the 1970s as a key player in the effort to pass the Alaska National Interest Lands Conservation Act which established over 100 million acres of new parks and refuges and nearly doubled the size of the American Wilderness system overnight. Today the Alaska Coalition continues to work across the country to ensure that American’s voices are heard. We are the only Alaska based group with a national focus, connecting Alaska and the rest of the country to protect these magnificent lands. Over the past 30 years we have recruited a diverse group of coalition members representing national and local interests from Alaska to Florida and Maine to Hawaii. Specifically we are working to:
- Prevent all attempts to open the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge to oil and gas drilling.
- Protect Southeast Alaska’s rainforests from taxpayer-subsidized road building and logging and secure permanent protecting for key wildlife habitats and local use areas.
- Keep the fishery of Bristol Bay economically and ecologically vibrant.
- Protect lands managed by the Bureau of Land Management across Alaska.
- Establish protections for fragile wildlife habitat across America’s Arctic.
The Alaska Coalition is fighting to keep these places wild so that they can be enjoyed by all Americans… but we need your help.
